Dr. Smukler was born in South Africa, is married, has two children, three grandchildren and resides in Newton, Massachusetts. Dr. Smukler obtained BDS (1955) and Higher Diploma in Dent. in Periodontology(1970) degrees at the University of Witwatersrand , Johannesburg, South Africa and the DMD(1976) and CAGS(1977) in Periodontology at Henry M Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Boston, USA. In 1983 Dr. Smukler became a Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology.

Dr. Smukler maintains a busy practice in Brookline, Massachusetts specializing in Periodontology and Implantology. He has been involved in clinical Periodontal and Implantology research for many years and has published extensively in the periodontal and implantology literature. He has authored two books on Occlusion. He has also lectured extensively both nationally and internationally on many topics in the fields of Implantology, Periodontology and Occlusion.
