Using guided surgery, Dr. William Papadopoulos provides highly successful dental implants at his Brookline, MA practice. Treatment with dental implants is the preferred method to restore missing teeth, as they offer a permanent solution that prevents bone loss in the jaw. With dental implants, your tooth replacement will look, feel, and function just like your own natural teeth.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants consist of screw-like titanium posts that are surgically inserted into your jawbone. Coupled with a restoration such as a crown, bridge, or denture, this treatment replaces the entire structure of the tooth from the root to the crown. Over time, the implants fuse to the jawbone through a process called osseointegration, resulting in a permanent, non-removable solution for missing teeth. Patients missing a single tooth will need just one crown. Because an implant is not required for each missing tooth, patients missing an entire row of teeth may need just six to eight implants.

Treatment with dental implants is the preferred method to restore missing teeth, as they offer a permanent solution that prevents bone loss in the jaw.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

If you are missing some or all of your natural teeth, you may be a candidate for dental implants. Additionally, if you currently wear a traditional restoration such as dentures, you may also benefit from this permanent solution. You must have sufficient jawbone tissue to support the implants and be free of periodontal disease and any other oral health conditions prior to your surgery.

The Dental Implant Procedure

Consultation and Planning

During a consultation with Dr. Papadopoulos, he will thoroughly evaluate the state of your oral health. As part of this examination, he will use a cone beam scanner to obtain highly detailed 3D images of your teeth, gums, and jawbone. If you do not have enough bone tissue to support implants, he may recommend a bone graft or sinus lift to prepare you for implant treatment. These are relatively simple procedures that he can perform for you in our office.

Dr. Papadopoulos uses computer-guided surgery techniques to ensure safe and predictable results. The images from the cone beam scanner are integrated into our in-office software to create a digital design for the optimal placement of your implants to support your final restoration and preserve jawbone tissue. When the final design is complete, Dr. Papadopoulos prints it to use as a guide for the surgical placement of your implants.

Surgery

Dr. Papadopoulos will use the surgical guide along with a laser to create precise holes in your gums for the placement of your implants. The implants will be inserted along with a supplement to stimulate bone growth and healing. In most cases, he can provide you with a temporary restoration to wear during the osseointegration phase, which can take three to six months, so that you don’t lose any functionality during this time.

Final Restoration

Once your implants have fully integrated with your jawbone, you can return to our office for the placement of your final, customized restoration. Dr. Papadopoulos offers a wide range of implant-supported restorative options in a variety of materials to meet the needs of our patients.

Benefits of Dental Implants

One of the greatest benefits of dental implants is that they truly improve your oral health by preventing bone loss. The support they provide is also beyond compare. Because implants are a permanent, non-removable solution, you can chew and speak with comfort and confidence. Dental implant-supported restorations also look natural and can dramatically improve your appearance.
